On Wednesday 15th September the National Trust held an open evening at the Birling Gap Centre and invited most of the village expecting some of us would attend. In the event nearly everyone invited attended and we were queuing to get in the door! It was a very interesting event and we learned a lot more about the National Trust and their plans for the Gap. A free taster from the cafe menu was provided and also free drinks. Suggestions were asked for, re: use of the old restaurant and many people gave their ideas including having a section for pole dancing exercise which provoked much laughter but is unlikely to be taken up.

They are bringing a pay to park scheme for the Birling Gap car park which will however be free to National Trust members and also possibly to East Dean village residents.

On Saturday 12th we all gathered at the village hall for an evening of Old Time Musical Hall. A thoroughly entertaining evening was had by all, difficult to pick out a favourite item but mine was a rather risque song about a little toy called a yo-yo. In the interval we dined on pie and vegetables followed by choc-ices (blast, there goes the diet!) A prize was awarded for the best gentleman and ladies outfit and at the end Peter Hobbs offered up a vote of thanks to the cast and piano accompianist for their extremely professional presentation.

Prizewinning artist Grayson Perry will be giving an illustrated talk about his work on Saturday 7th August in the village hall at 8.00pm. Tickets will be £10.00 each available from Molly Bartlett Tel 422232.

After a horrendous winter in the village which saw us cut off for some days,

it finally looks as though spring is on the way. Daffodils are starting to flower

and it is so lovely to see the sun shining. The stalwarts at the farmers market

have soldiered on through the bad weather to supply us with essentials.

Also many thanks to the small shopkeepers in the village who braved the extreme

weather to keep everyone supplied. It was also great to see so much community

spirit with the able bodied helping those not so mobile.

A warning about the many dangerous potholes on the A259 and also on the

road from the village to Birling Gap, so please be careful.

There is an Antique & Collectors Fair at East Dean Village Hall on Sunday

21st of March starting at 9.30am, ample free car parking. Many interesting

items, something of interest for everyone.

The Seven Sisters Sheep Centre has now reopened for the Spring, soon there will be

lambs to feed and pet and many other attractions.

Talking of children there was a wonderful family service in the church on 14th

March with many chilren in the congregation all very well behave and enjoying the

service. Each child was called to the front of the church and handed small bunches

of flowers to distribute to all the ladies in the congregation for Mothers day.

The Vicar certainly had all the children involved and everyone of them felt

special.
